Total waste management
Total waste management (TWM) is a concept which takes a holistic approach to the management of waste, encompassing recycling, waste minimisation, waste segregation, waste recovery and waste disposal.
Integrated waste management (IWM) is the integration of various waste treatment methods to produce an environmentally and economically sustainable waste management system.
To implement the concept of integrated waste management, many local authorities are using Private Finance Initiatives (PFI) to fund the large-scale capital involvement needed to provide modern waste facilities.
