Recycling facility
Up to 60% of London‘s waste is exported out of the capital, mostly to the home counties. 64% of London’s waste is dumped in a landfill site, and the rest recycled. Landfill sites are filling up and are not a long term option.
Recycling takes place in a materials recycling facility, where materials are sorted, then recycled and prepared ready for reuse. To find out more about where recycling facilities are located in London, see www.capitalwastefacts.com
The Mayor of London wants London to deal with its own waste. The Mayor's London plan has set a target for London to manage 80% of the waste it produces locally. This means London needs more recycling facilities.
To reach this target, London needs an investment of £2 billion in more recycling and waste management facilities. A further £2 billion investment is needed for commercial and industrial waste.
