History
Our ultimate aim is to tackle the capital's waste problem. London produces 19 million tonnes of waste a year. We are working to transform waste into a reusable resource, to create viable everyday products and to bury the landfill habit.
London Remade was created as a not for profit business, limited by guarantee in 2001. We stimulate markets for materials, reprocessing, collection and green procurement in the waste and recycling industry.
Reprocessing
Originally set up to instigate regeneration through a capital grants programme; we developed four recycling eco-parks with the private sector, representing a total investment of over £20 million. The eco-parks specialise in reprocessing four materials: glass, paper, organics and construction and demolition waste.
Green procurement and products
As well as recycling infrastructure, we work at every stage of the recycling supply chain. We set up the UK‘s first green procurement programme to advise and help businesses buy recycled products. Due to huge interest from both the private and public sectors, the initiative has grown enormously and we’ve recently re-launched a new service www.greenprocurementcode.co.uk
To inspire and encourage the design of products using recycled materials we invested in a new product development fund. We awarded financially viable business ideas and enabled designers to create and test their prototypes, ready to take to market. As a result, we created 38 new products.
Helping local authorities
On the collection side, we help local authorities and commercial waste companies improve the quality and quantity of materials collected for recycling. We started out by helping the London boroughs to design and operate their first recycling services. Now over 90% of London households either receive a recycling collection from home, or have access to nearby facilities. We're now working with all of the London boroughs to improve their recycling. For more about the waste and recycling in the capital, we designed and developed www.capitalwastefacts.com

Expansion
In 2006, we launched our wholly owned subsidiary London Remade Solutions to meet an expanding demand for our services, on a commercial basis. All profit is invested into the parent company to continue to develop and improve recycling and waste management. The group shares joint objectives, values and ethics.
