Closed Loop Recycling
Recycling household waste is increasingly becoming second nature for consumers, with the majority of local authorities providing door to door collections. As many as eight out of ten Londoners now receive a collection from home.
In contrast, the environmental cost of lunchtime waste is higher than ever with little infrastructure in place to encourage good recycling behaviour at work. London alone produces approximately 263 tonnes of waste every lunchtime, enough to fill Trafalgar Square every week. This level of waste is simply not sustainable and the UK cannot continue to cope with the amount of rubbish being produced.
Closed loop recycling is an innovative new concept in the UK, focusing on sustainable packaging for the food and beverage industry. This is achieved by working with iconic retail and fast food companies to tackle packaging waste. By helping public place vendors and retailers to source packaging materials that can be recycled after use, levels of waste are greatly reduced. Once sustainable packaging is in place, public place recycling systems are implemented to collect the packaging on disposal. The recycled packaging is then made into new products instead of being sent to landfill.
